I am confused on what this Wiki is. We have a ton of incomplete pages, whether they are for episodes, shows or even voice actors. 20 percent of the Wiki is just stubs or articles with three sentences or less. I deleted almost one hundred articles tonight and I have to ask everyone: where are we going here?

This is a Cartoon Network Wiki, but are we going to devote this Wiki to every single show that has aired on Cartoon Network, plus their characters, episodes, items, locations, voice actors, etc. or are we going to deal with the basics, such as a page for the show, the characters and episodes?

This Wiki has been in this state for almost a decade now. Other communities are growing and doing well, with a more in-depth focus on certain series. I feel like this Wiki's purpose should be to give an overview on the series, list all the episodes on one page and link all the major characters on one page. If viewers would like to read more about the series or find out more information, we should have a template to link them to that Wiki.

Another issue is the group we are targeting. Are we targeting just the United States or international Cartoon Networks as well? I say this because we also have communities in other languages, located on the bottom of the front page. We have about 50 Thomas the Tank Engine pages as well, which is kinda pointless when we have a UK CN Wiki and the show never aired in the States. Should we have pages for every single show that has aired internationally on here or are we better off making a page for Cartoon Network (United Kingdom) and listing the series and some background on the international network?

I'm not sure about you guys, but the way it has been is not working. Some series like Ben 10 have an excess of information, even down to characters that appeared for a few minutes in one episode, while we are falling behind on more recent series. I feel like this Wiki can benefit from more rich, quality articles focused on what is essential for each show, rather than giving small blurbs. The small blurbs should be on a Wiki devoted to the show.

My point is: we have a lot of clutter. We have a lot of articles cut and paste from other Wikis as well. We need to cut down on that and clean this Wiki up. My proposal is to have: a page for the series, the characters and the episodes, but I'm willing to listen to your ideas as well. Your thoughts?

    • Agreed, it would drastically cut down on the amount of minor pages here, thus making the Wiki much easier to navigate. The minor pages can be compiled into larger pages, like "Villains in Show X", etc.

    • I think we need to delete all episode pages, focus on the shows on CN pages only, non of there episodes. We also need to focus on Programming Blocks and schedules.

Absolutely. Programming blocks and schedules are integral for a Wiki like this. There are no other Wikis that would contain that type of information, while specific shows will obviously have their own episodes.

    • The episode pages appear very messy, since most shows only have some episodes rather than all of them. Either way, they should go and be replaced with summaries on the show's page.

Rightfully agreed, also I noticed that we all come from a wiki we've seen each other on before... Total Drama wikis. :D

    • As far as I'm concerned, CN Wiki should develop articles about everything from each show. Why? It makes wiki more popular and attractive for any person who really enjoys particular cartoon. Another thing is that some cartoons become old, and then the wiki about the show becomes messy and, unfortunately, abandoned. For instance, if there's an one person who would like to contribute to it, they lose enthusiasm when seeing no one reads it except them. It's really a shame, you know. That's what happened for example to Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends Wiki, which is a big mess right now. And I would love to change it, even though I am not an English native speaker of course, but not there, because it is too stupid -- you see, there is no even an active bureauracy.

To begin this process, we should make little things to help integrating articles about each show. I mean, some small details, like particular background for each cartoon, small logos somewhere on the top of the article, shipshape organization of all articles (scheme: Characters -> Characters by TV Show (-> e.g. Ben 10); Male; Female; Children; Adults etc., something like that. This has been done on Polish Cartoon Network Wiki and I think it's wonderful. And I am an admin of Polish CNW and I think I'm really experienced in Wikia, as I contribute here since about 2010. All things considered, by creating above things, we establish a large place for all cartoon lovers, who can communicate to each other and make the wiki better and better.

Another question is: why does this Wiki have background basen on the Powerhouse era? It's not only boring, but also so old... I don't really care about it if there are another backgrounds for each cartoons, which, as I mentioned before, functions very well on Polish CN Wiki, but all things being equal, you should think of it. I suppose the background isn't even changed for Christmas/winter, is it?

      Keep going!

I agree with you one hundred percent. Compared to the PPG wiki, the Dexter's Lab wiki looks like a ghost town. Obviously the hype over the 2016 series is bringing people to the PPG wiki, while Dexter's Lab has never really gotten that much attention since the whole Rude Removal episode leak.

We need some kind of new background and theme.

Also a new home page (when you type cartoonnetwork.wikia.com), a new fresh one with news, etc.

      Like this:

      CONCEPT
The only problem is that the page is too colorful XD

I'm not pretty much active here but I'm experienced user, well, for logos and backgrounds and ocassionally editing pages whenever needed. I'll tell you guys that I tried fixing this wiki for its own good but I gradually lost my interest since most of the articles here came from numerous wikis. Heck, I didn't even know when and where to start cleaning up these articles and they keep coming, especially with the shows like Steven Universe, PPG 2016, etc.

As for the background, we should have a theme or something. You guys also can provide images if you have any ideas.

Any suggestions on how we should deal with the "imported" articles? Honestly speaking, I'm really lost when it comes to that kind of articles.

    • Check out Polish Cartoon Network Wiki and feel free to use backgrounds for each show that have been already used there, like Long Live the Royals, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Courage the Cowardly Dog, etc. I absolutely think it would be a wonderful idea. Besides, that's what we got on official Cartoon Network pages, show sections had another unique background.

Yes, the original work is an issue. It's not just other Wikis, as I have seen articles here from Wikipedia. Again, I completely get why some people want this Wiki to remain the way it is, but it's just better off to give readers an overview of the series, characters and episodes and then link them to the respected Wikis where they can add more information about the show and read more.

Dexter's Lab Wiki might be a work in progress, but what good is adding more Dexter's Lab content here when that Wiki, which is 100 percent dedicated to Dexter's Lab, is struggling still?

        Loading editor
    • I've explained what's good: these wikis are or become DEAD. Just look for instance at Adventure Time Wiki, which used to be one of the most popular wikis, and now it isn't. Look at Steven Universe Wiki, which is so popular right now, and it will become dead in 5 years or so. Look at Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends Wiki, which is dead right now and there are so many things to do, like adding chat, changing background, reorganisation of categories and more. I love FHFIF but I literally don't feel like doing anything there because there are no any other people. What's the point in making a wiki solo? Shouldn't we create a community and raise a fandom?

We should HOLD TOGETHER and unite content about our favourite shows to keep fans. I love many CN cartoons and I can't imagine myself editing (for instance) The Cramp Twins Wiki, The Powerpuff Girls Wiki, Dex's Lab Wiki, EEnE Wiki, Tom & Jerry Wiki in tandem. Also, ALONE, because The Cramp Twins doesn't have such a large fanbase. Would you like to do the same? Would it be entertaining? I don't think so.

Especially, draw attention to the fact that CN DOES create a universe for all the shows, which is proven by FusionFall, Cartoon Network Invaded or CN City.

    • I have this idea with the articles. I just formulated a format in my mind for each series (1990s-2010s) and it'll look like the main page. With that said, I'm not really saying the main page but if we are talking about the format here , it contains the following:

      • The Main Wiki
      • Characters
      • Episodes
      • Possibly:
        • Polls
        • A series of galleries
        • Others

I'm not saying that my idea is applicable to all series due to duplicated images and excessive resources imported from the other wikis.  I also suggest that we should put a note that this wiki is under a major clean-up. Also, we need to set up ourselves in the shows we're really into so we can give needed information.

I'm also putting this up too, some of our categories are so messed up and I think we should fix that too.

        Loading editor
    • I'm in favor of that idea, minus the polls. I also think a production section will be a important, as it will contain information such as reasons behind the show's cancellation.

    • Another admin here, I agree that we could remove a lot of the character and episode pages which are, for the most part, copy and pasted from other wikis anyway. I also agree that this wiki should focus more on things that could only be on this site, like programming blocks, schedules, etc.

    • Should I become an admin for this wiki?

Yes, I would definitely recommend Glenn31 and Raised By Wolves to help embark on this Wikiwide cleanup.

    • Well, step one of the renovation is the series pages.

I just created a new infobox, using the modernized format that is compatible on devices.

To see an example of this, go visit the Total Drama Island page, which is now pretty bare bones. Overview, Characters, Episodes, Production.

The Wiki has been moved up to the top of the template and it has been greatly simplified with the most relevant information.

        Loading editor
    • I'm also working on updating some pages to the new infobox, I just finished Ben 10

    • Great, I will work on things soon. I can't now though.

    • I feel this is needed to be discussed too. I'm talking about some certain unnecessary categories. I can't give examples because they are really messed up and I'm trying to fix it by going to the articles and removing them manually instead of deleting the categories.

Well, anyway, I'm gonna try to fix this issue for the next few days before going to another long hiatus.

    • Toonamifan55 wrote: Are we keeping all of the voice actor pages?

This is a good question. I feel like they are best off listed on the respective Wikis. On the characters subpage for each show, the voice actor or voice actress should be listed somewhere.

Frankly, if we start making voice actor/actress pages for every character of every show, we will be getting ourselves into another wasteland and garbage dump of content either plagiarized, incomplete or serves no true purpose.

But my counterpoint is: Tara Strong. So, yeah... good question. Any thoughts from anyone else? I say we should clear those out too, but I can be swayed.

I believe this is something we will get to later on. The international Cartoon Network Wiki communities can create content. I do believe it might be a good idea to keep the actual pages for the different countries, such as Cartoon Network/Latin America, but not for shows exclusive to those countries. If you see any, delete them.

        Loading editor
    • What about eras from different countries? For example, CN Latin America's Toonix.

        Loading editor
    • That's a tough question. Does anyone have an opinion about this? I feel like we can incorporate it to the Cartoon Network/Latin America page as a separate section.

        Loading editor
    • And a few more things regarding Toonix. About 2 months ago, I created a List of Toonix Characters page for the Toonix era, just like how we created a List of Nood Characters page for the Noods era. However, when I was clicking the "random page" button to see if there were any pages that needed editing, I stumbled upon a Toonix bumpers page. Do you think we should merge this page with List of Toonix Characters?
