Background[]
The era is when Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm have grown up and have numerous speaking roles in the episodes. Fred and Barney are reserve police officers with The Shmoo. Captain Caveman appears in a separate segment as the distant ancestor to The Flintstones and is a prequel to Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels. The Frankenstones also appear again.

An hour long, with occasional 90 minute presentations, it can be confused with "The Flintstone Comedy Hour". The Shmoo is a licensed character that appeared previously in a separate series "The New Shmoo". Hanna - Barbera adapted Benjy Grimm from "The Fantastic Four" which was licensed by Marvel Productions to be made into a programme by Hanna - Barbera and later DePatie - Freleng. The stories are about Benjy in high school, not unlike Here They Are! Power Puff Girls Z!, experimenting with transforming to solid rock. Benjy was added to "The New Fred And Barney Show" which was expanded to 60 minute presentations called "Fred And Barney Meet The Thing". Later, "The New Shmoo" was added as well, and was called "Fred And Barney Meet The Shmoo". No episodes actually depicted any of them together until "The Flintstone Comedy Show", where The Shmoo joins Fred and Barney's squad car.
