Pinky Malinky is a 2009 pilot created by Chris Garbutt & produced by Cartoon Network Studio Europe. However it was eventually picked up by Nickelodeon in 2016 and distributed by Netflix in 2019.

Pilot Overview[]

The first pilot starts up with a theme song about how Pinky was a normal boy but then becomes a living Hot Dog. Afterwards Pinky is shown walking down the halls of school on his way to class, until he receives the stink eye from a bully Pinky get's encouraged by his friend to stand up for himself and prove he's not a wiener (figuratively speaking of course).

Trivia[]

  • A new pilot developed by Nickelodeon is more rare to come by than the 2009 pilot (which can be viewed on YouTube) only two minutes worth of footage from the Nick version has resurfaced.
  • The Nick version has a art style similar to Gumball, and that style was kept for the Nickelodeon series.
  • Nickelodeon initially intended for the series to air on their channel in 2016 but went on several delays. Eventually Nickelodeon aired the series on Netflix as part of a deal.
  • Pinky Malinky is the first Cartoon Network produced pilot to be greenlit by another network.
  • Despite the series being produced by Nickelodeon animation studio, it has not been listed on their studio's website, similar to another show Nick produced for Netflix Glitch Techs.
  • In the 2009 pilot, Pinky's best friend was an onion, this was dropped in the series.
