Monica and Friends (Brazilian Portuguese: Turma da Mônica), previously known as Monica's Gang, is a Brazilian series of cartoons based on the comic book series of the same name by Mauricio de Sousa. The show revolves around the adventures of Monica, a short tempered girl that has a stuffed rabbit named Samson that she beats people up with, Jimmy Five, who plans to defeat Monica, while also having a speech impediment, swapping R for L (or W in English), Smudge, Jimmy Five's best friend who ruins his plans, and has a fear of water, and Maggy, who eats a lot, but never gets fat.
Starting June 27, 2004, Monica and Friends started airing on Cartoon Network Brazil.[1] Later, in 2009, Cartoon Network would start commissioning new episodes of the show to air exclusively on their channel. They did this again in 2012 and again in 2017. Starting in 2021, new episodes would air on Cartoon Network and start streaming on Max (formerly HBO Max).

Monica[]
Monica (Brazilian Portuguese: Mônica) is a 7-year-old girl that is very strong. She usually come equipped with a stuffed bunny named Samson (Sansão). She uses Samson the beat up the boys (typically Jimmy Five and Smudge) when make when they call her toothy, shorty, and roly-poly. Due to her "superhero" strength, she has been nicknamed "owner/ruler of the street."
She was inspired on Mônica Sousa, one of de Sousa's daughters, leading to her creation in 1963. She was originally a 4-year-old girl who would bully Jimmy Five in his comic strips.
Jimmy Five[]
Jimmy Five (Brazilian Portuguese: Cebolinha) is a 7-year-old boy that usually makes "infallible plans." He does this to become "owner of the street," currently held by Monica. He gets Smudge to help him, even if doesn't want to, before he eventually ruins the plan and they both get a "bunny bashing." He also has a speech impediment, swapping R to L/W. (L in Portuguese, W in English)
The name, Cebolinha, means "Little Onion" in English, due to his hair and his onion shaped head. His English name, Jimmy Five is a pun on "gimme five," also due to his 5 strands of spiky hair. He was inspired by a off a friend of de Sousa's brother, Márcio Sousa, nicknamed "Cebolinha", leading to his creation in 1960.
Smudge[]
Smudge (Brazilian Portuguese: Cascão) is a 7-year-old boy who has aquaphobia, otherwise a fear of water. Due to this, Smudge has never bathed in his life. Several stories have his friends try and make him take a bath, but these always fail. Smudge also takes part in Jimmy Five's infallible plans, usually ruining them in the end, largely due to being Jimmy's best friend.
His names in English and Portuguese, Cascão and Smudge, both refer to how dirty he is. Like Jimmy Five, Smudge was also inspired by a off a friend of de Sousa's brother, Márcio Sousa, a friend not fond of being hygienic, leading to his creation in 1961.
Maggy[]
Maggy (Brazilian Portuguese: Magali) is a 7-year-old girl well known for her giant appetite. She eats almost everything she sees, sometime leading to eating other's food. Because of this, people try to eat food away from her. Even with her big appetite, she never gains any weight. Monica is her best friend, and therefore, she is never hit with Samson. She is revealed also a left handed character.
She was inspired on Magali Sousa, one of de Sousa's daughters, leading to her creation in 1964.

Monica Adventures (Brazilian Portuguese: Turma da Mônica Jovem), also known as Monica Teen, is an Brazilian animated series based on the comics of the same name by Maurício de Sousa. The show is still about the Monica and Friends characters, but they now have grown up into teens. The show is a co-production between Maurício de Sousa Produções, Lighstar Studios, and Cartoon Network Brazil. They would announce the show in 2012. Later, in 2015, they would announce the show again with a pilot episode, premiering with the last episodes of the 2012 batch. It would officially premiere on November 7, 2019. The last episode would air on September 16, 2021.

Monica Toy (Brazilian Portuguese: Mônica Toy, previously Turma da Mônica Toy), is a series of animated shorts produced by Mauricio de Sousa Produções for Youtube and Cartoon Network. The shorts are about chibified versions of the Monica and Friends characters that do ridiculous things. The shorts are non-vocal, as there is no dialogue in these shorts. On Cartoon Network, the 30 second shorts would air during commercial breaks.
