Christina Miller (born January 22, 1971) is an American businesswoman and media executive. She is best-known for serving as the President and General Manager of Turner's Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, and Boomerang from July 16, 2014 to November 27, 2019. The CN eras under her were CHECK it (2014–16), Dimensional (2016–19), and Mashup (2018–19). Michael Ouweleen succeeded Miller initially as interim president from November 27, 2019 to July 1, 2020 before Tom Ascheim took the official position on July 2020 and the eventual return of Ouweleen to presidency on May 11, 2022.
Early life[]
Miller was born in Staten Island, New York on January 22, 1971. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and Management from the College of Staten Island – CUNY.[1]
Career[]
HIT Entertainment[]
Before joining Turner, Miller served as senior vice president of brand licensing for HIT Entertainment, responsible for brand strategy and licensing for classic preschool brands including Thomas & Friends, Barney & Friends, The Wiggles, and Bob the Builder.
Cartoon Network Enterprises[]
Miller joined Turner Broadcasting System in 2005 as Senior Vice President of Cartoon Network Enterprises (CNE) and directed consumer products and merchandising strategies in the United States, including global licensing and retail business development for Cartoon Network and Adult Swim properties.
NBA Digital and Turner Sports[]
From 2011 to 2014, Miller was the General Manager of NBA Digital and senior vice president of Turner Sports Strategy/Marketing/Programming, where she led the day-to-day operations for the NBA Digital portfolio, which included NBA TV, the league's 24-hour digital television networks and its broadband and wireless businesses.
Cartoon Network[]
In July 16, 2014, Miller was appointed President and General Manager of the Turner Broadcasting System networks of Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, and Boomerang, as well as CartoonNetwork.com and AdultSwim.com.[2] She was responsible for leading all aspects of the business in North America as well as global oversight of linear and non-linear content, consumer products, and franchise management. Miller frequently comments on the digital evolution of children’s entertainment and has been featured in The New York Times,[3] Fast Company,[4] Forbes,[5] Fortune,[6] Wired,[7] TechRepublic,[8] Big Think,[9] HuffPost,[10] and Variety,[11] where she was named to the annual Women's Impact Report in 2014.[12]
On November 27, 2019, it was announced that Miller would be leaving WarnerMedia at the end of 2019. Michael Ouweleen served as interim President of Cartoon Network, with Miller helping with the transition, from then until July 1, 2020, when she was succeeded by Tom Ascheim as CN's president.
The first to be greenlighted during Miller's presidency is the second season of Uncle Grandpa from March 5 to December 15, 2015, while the last is the first season of We Baby Bears from January 1, 2022 to May 13, 2023 during the tenure of her intial official successor Tom Ascheim from January 1 to May 11, 2022 and the return of Michael Ouweleen to presidency from May 11, 2022 to May 13, 2023.
Other ventures[]
An avid lover of the arts, Miller currently serves on the boards of The Shed[13] and Atlanta's Woodruff Arts Center,[14] as well as other brands such as Refinery29,[15] the Scratch Foundation,[16] and Funny or Die.[17]
