The Cartoon Network Wiki

Cartoon Network is a Portuguese cable television channel launched in December 3rd, 2013. It is owned by Turner Broadcasting System Europe and based in London. It currently broadcasts in Portugal, Angola and Mozambique.

History[]

The channel first debuted on the country in 1997, recieving the Pan-European feed that other countries did if they didn't have their local version available. In October 1st, 2013, a Portuguese version became available in Angola and Mozambique as a means to adapt the content to the demands of the viewers. [1]

In December 3rd, 2013, the Portuguese version became available in Portugal, replacing the Pan-European feed, broadcasting in 16:9 resolution and airing 24 hours a day. As a consequence, TCM (shared channel) and Boomerang were removed from the cable operator line-ups. It is speculated that the switch was done due to low ratings of the Pan-European feed in previous years. [2] As of August 2014, the channel is the third most watched kids' channel in Portugal, with Canal Panda and Disney Channel ranking in second and first place, respectively.

CN Portugal is also the first European variant of Cartoon Network to adopt the Check It 3.0 era.
